Madrid, 2nd of Novembre of 2006. SATEC is a new member of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
The W3C plays a vital role in the development of the technologies that makes it possible the Internet evolution. Being aware of its
importance and, as SATEC activities in general, and in mobility in particular, are intimately related to the fields covered by the
W3C, SATEC has decided to avtively participate in the Consortium.
This participation is made explicit, in a first step, through the collaboration in two Working Groups: the Device Description Working Group (DDWG) within the Mobile Web Initiative del W3C and in the Forms Working Group (XformsWG).
The DDWG is developing the Device Description Repository (DDR), which is a fundamental piece for content adaptation for handsets in mobility. SATEC activities in this field have been developed in the telco sector for mobile operators. This experience will be brought to the Working Group. At the same time, SATEC will benefit from the experience contributed by other members of the Working Group. All of these will contribute to the improvement of the services and products offered by SATEC.
The XformsWG develops a technology for the processing, at the user terminal, of data in XML format through a declarative language expressed in XML. Xforms is designed to be embedded in other markup languages, with special emphasis in (X)HTML. It is a step ahead for the web and is designed to diminish or supress the usage of scripting languages like Javascript or others. It is remarkable the the capacities offered by AJAX, so popular these days, are included in Xforms, in a declarative way, at a fraction of the code needed in AJAX.
Xforms is the basis for the DataMovil smart client. With its participation in the Working Group, SATEC brings the experience of the implementation of Xforms in resource constraint devices, at the same time SATEC will benefit from first hand information about the standard subtleties and its evolution in the future.
