SATEC develops a prototype of Domiciliary Hospitalization with DataMovil

Madrid, 14th of January of 2010. Satec has developed a prototype for the computerization of the activities of a Domiciliary Hospitalization Unit. The prototype takes the H1N1 influenza as the sample case to show how the data collection, both administrative and medical, may be computerized using standard technologies, including mobility, and DataMovil in particular.

The procedures through which the patient is registered and diagnosed to suffer the H1N1 virus are modelled by means of BPMN. Then, once the patient is included in the Domiciliary Hospitalization Unit (DHU), the monitoring of the medical treatment is supported by a mobile device that is used for data collection in the medical or nursing visits. The device may be brought by the doctors or nurses or may be permanently located at the patient’s residence. All the data collected by the device is sent to a server through a mobile network. In order to demonstrate the integration of medical devices in the system, a fingertip pulse oximeter has been integrated with DataMovil, the software resident in the mobile device.

The products integrated in the prototype include Intalio BPM for the workflow and integration engine, MySQL for the database, Birt for report generation and DataMovil for the mobile part. The hardware used for mobility is a Samsung UMPC. The pulse oximeter integrated is the Nonin Onyx II 9560.
